

Nicola Zengiaro, PhD is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Turin, investigating the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and animal communication, and a Marie Curie Exchange Staff Researcher (MASKED project) at Palacký University Olomouc. He holds a PhD in Semiotics from the University of Bologna, with a dissertation titled “The Continuum of Life: Semiosis as Ecosystemic Resonance,” after completing two Master’s degrees in Philosophy and Psychology. His research focuses on the conceptual boundaries of living systems and the foundations of “Lithosemiotics.” An internationally active scholar, Zengiaro has conducted research at the University of Tartu and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana of Bogotá, and has taught university-level courses across Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
Zengiaro’s publication record includes the monograph Il mondo dell’animalità (2019), a forthcoming history of biosemiotics, and over 40 peer-reviewed articles. He serves as Associate Editor for Biosemiotics (Springer) and Managing Editor for Linguistic Frontiers (De Gruyter) and Animal Studies (Apeiron). His contributions have been recognized through numerous competitive grants and keynote invitations, including at Nanjing Normal University. His work continues to bridge the gap between semiotics, theoretical biology, and emerging technologies.
